The Collaborative Robotics (CoRob) Lab is led by Dr. Peng Gao, Assistant Professor in Computer Science and faculty member of the N.C. Plant Sciences Initiative at North Carolina State University. Our lab is advancing the state-of-the-art in collaborative perception, multi-robot coordination, and human-robot interaction. He received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the Colorado School of Mines in 2022. Dr. Gao has published in top-tier robotics and AI conferences including RSS, CoRL, ICRA, IROS, IJRR, ICLR, NeurIPS, AAAI, and ICML. His work on "Cross-View and Cross-Modal Collaborative Perception" received the Best Paper Award for Agri-Robot at IROS 2023.
The central theme of our research focuses on collaborative autonomy to enable lifelong team awareness for multi-robot and human-autonomy teaming. This vision seeks to empower autonomous robots with the ability to collaboratively and autonomously comprehend both unstructured environments and their teammates, thereby surpassing human-level collaboration for complex tasks in open-world settings. To achieve this goal, we have been pursuing research at the intersection of robotics, machine learning, and computer vision. Our broad research interests include connected autonomous driving, robot-assisted manufacuturing and agriculture, environment exploration and monitoring, as well as the Internet of robotics things.
